At least 11 people have been detained in Tunisia after taking part in a protest demanding the release of four pro-Palestinian activists jailed over their involvement in a Gaza-bound humanitarian flotilla, lawyers said.
Activists, however, put the number of detainees at at least 13. Authorities have yet to officially confirm the arrests.
Hundreds of people reportedly took to the streets of Tunis to call for the release of the four activists, who Tunisian authorities accuse of misusing funds raised for the humanitarian flotilla.
The activists were arrested in March over allegations of financial misconduct linked to the flotilla, which sought to sail to Gaza in 2025 to deliver humanitarian aid to Palestinians in the enclave.
The Sumud Flotilla has rejected the allegations and repeatedly called for the activists to be released.
The group also said the health of the detained activists was deteriorating after they began a hunger strike in protest against their continued detention.
One of the activists is reportedly in critical condition, according to the group.
