The British High Commission in Nigeria has commended Lloyd’s Register for its continued support for the development of future Nigerian leaders through its partnership with the UK Government’s Chevening Scholarship Programme.
The partnership provides outstanding Nigerian professionals pursuing maritime-related studies with opportunities to undertake fully funded master’s degree programmes at leading universities in the United Kingdom.
Lloyd’s Register, a leading provider of engineering, technology and professional services to the maritime sector, is one of Chevening’s global partners sponsoring scholarships for candidates from Nigeria and other African countries whose academic pursuits align with the maritime industry.
Speaking on the partnership, the British Deputy High Commissioner in Lagos, Jonny Baxter, said the initiative was helping to build a pipeline of future leaders capable of contributing to the growth and transformation of Nigeria’s maritime sector.
“We are delighted to continue our partnership with Lloyd’s Register to support outstanding Nigerians with the potential to lead and drive positive change in the maritime sector,” Baxter said.
He said the collaboration was an investment in future leaders who would contribute to innovation, sustainability and growth within the industry.
Baxter noted that Nigeria’s maritime sector remained critical to the country’s trade and economic development, adding that the scholarship partnership would equip emerging leaders with the skills and professional networks needed to shape the sector’s future.
“We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Lloyd’s Register and celebrating the achievements of Chevening Scholars as they make a lasting impact in Nigeria and beyond,” he added.
Also speaking, Business Director, Africa, Lloyd’s Register, Goz Gwam, said the organisation was proud of its partnership with Chevening and its contribution to developing emerging maritime leaders.
Gwam said the partnership provided an avenue to identify and support talented individuals whose aspirations aligned with key areas of national development.
“We are proud of our partnership with Chevening, which helps us connect with talented individuals whose aspirations support key areas of national development,” he said.
According to him, Lloyd’s Register and Chevening are committed to developing a new generation of maritime leaders who can contribute to Nigeria’s and Africa’s economic growth while strengthening relations between the UK and Nigeria.
The Chevening Scholarship Programme is the UK Government’s international scholarship programme, providing opportunities for emerging leaders from eligible countries to pursue postgraduate studies in the UK.
